Births are attended by one of the midwives and a skilled birth assistant. Doulas are welcome and our clients may have anyone they wish present at the birth of their baby. During labor we provide guidance and support as well as making sure that the labor is progressing normally for both mother and baby. Many non-pharmacological methods of support are offered during labor, including doula support, birth tubs, massage, heat/cold, different positions and lots of encouragement.
The early hours after birth are special and the baby is never separated from his/her mama. Early breastfeeding is encouraged. We are able to make sure that mother and baby are doing well with a minimal amount of disruption.
A thorough newborn exam, including weighing and measuring is done a couple of hours after the birth. We make sure that both baby and mother are stable before they leave the care of the midwife.
Treasure Valley Midwives has worked hard to develop and maintain relationships with medical experts in the field of maternity and newborn care. This relationship ensures the very safest care possible for families desiring home or birth center births. If a hospital transport becomes necessary, the midwives will accompany you to the hospital and stay with you until the baby is born. We will resume postpartum care when you are home from the hospital.
