Legislative Update
On April 1, 2009, House Bill 185, was signed into law by Governor C. L. Butch Otter.
Highlights of HB 185:
•Midwifery licensure is mandatory, with several exemptions
•Licensure is based on the CPM credential
•Experienced midwives can "grandmother-in"
•The board of midwifery consists of 3 licensed midwives, 1 physician, and 1 public member
•The formulary includes oxygen, oxytocin for hemorrhage, local anesthesia, antibiotics for Group B Strep, epinephrine, IV fluids, RhoGAM®, Vitamin K, and
eye ointment
•There is a provision to add medications to the formulary
•VBACs are allowable under certain circumstances; breeches and twins are not.
